    CONTROL OF AERATION: CONTROL OF WWTP AEREATION SYSTEMS.

     

    Dissolved oxygen levels in activated sludge systems are considered to be one of the most important WWTP control parameters. Low levels of dissolved oxygen affect the microorganism growth rate and also could cause filamentous bacteria growth. On the other hand, high dissolved oxygen levels mean high energy consumption that have a negative effect on denitifrication processes. It must be remembered that the energy consumed by aeration can account for more than 50% of the total energy cost of a WWTP. It is advisable to maintain an adequate level of dissolved oxygen for economic reasons and process stability.

The research team has developed a control system based on fuzzy logic that optimizes aeration in general in any plant fitted with diffusors and blowers.
